William R. Farrell is a native of Syracuse, New York. He was born in 1937, graduated from Saint Anthony of Padua Parochial School in 1955. Farrell spent his college years in Washington, DC where he earned his BA degree from Catholic University of America and later received his MA degree from Syracuse University. He started his teaching career in 1961 at Fayetteville-Manlius High School located east of Syracuse. Farrell taught history and Latin for over 30 years. It was during this period of time that he became extremely interested in the origin of names.
His wife Judith was a French teacher at Fayetteville-Manlius for 38 years. The Farrells have two daughters, six grandchildren and one great-grand child.
